Sometimes you just want to scream, or just give up on whatever you are doing because you are just so annoyed about something. Well, I wouldn’t suggest that, but I get it; sometimes you just want to walk away. Something that I learned is that when you have patience, whatever you are doing can turn around and be an amazing experience.

It was one peaceful Sunday, the sun was bright and shining and the breeze was light. I was at my Nana and Papa's house with my family and cousins. My Nana told us to calm down because she had a present for us. Then she gave us all our very own wiggle board. A wiggle board is a smooth plastic board about the size of a skateboard with four wheels, a steering wheel and a place to put our feet. Knowing how to use this board was very interesting. We had to sit on the board and turn the steering wheel back and forth. Then it would kind of move in a zig-zag motion. We were all so excited to have this magnificent toy. We rushed out of the house and onto the driveway. I thought it would be exhilarating, but I was sadly incorrect.

I got on the board and did exactly what I was told to do; I turned the steering wheel back and forth. But when I started going it went surprisingly slow. The wheel slowly drove over the hot pavement. My cousins and sister found out quickly that this slow ride was not fulfilling their need for speed, so they started pushing the cart with their feet as they sat on it.  They zoomed across the ground like they were in little cars, and they were not stopping. They looked like they were having fun.  My hands started to get hot under the sun, and I started to get mad; this ride was useless. I wanted to give up and push the wiggle board like they did, but I knew that was not the right way to use the wiggle board. I leisurely drove the wiggle board around and sadly maintained the same slow speed. I was getting frustrated at the thing that was taking me so slow. I tried to push myself like the others, but it was much more difficult. My legs got tired after a while of pushing. My legs started to feel like giant weights. I tried to go back and improve my riding the regular way.

I tried to be patient as I rode the board, but I was getting tired. The silt breeze waved over me. The hot sun shined on me. That felt good. I tried to do it again, but this time with less concentration on how slow the ride was going and more focus on enjoying it. I tried more and more times. Every time I tried the faster I went and the more fun I had. I got better and better. I was having fun, and I had less frustration. It was never the fast ride I had thought it would be; it was remarkable though how calm and still it drove. It felt like riding a boat on calm waves; it gently gilded across the ground. It turned out that it was easy to make it go. Soon we were going inside, and I thought to myself how fun that was and how I wanted to get better.

Now that I look back on that station I wish I had considered having more patience, but I am glad that I was able to have a little of it and have a fun time.  I know it won’t be easy, but the more patience I have the more fun I will have and the more joy I will get. This is one station out of many that patience can be rewarded; there are so many! I know I never went as fast as I would have liked, but it taught me something. It taught me that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet.

  1. I like how you used lots of descriptive language to engage the readers on your feelings and observations. " I was getting frustrated at the thing that was taking me so slow. I tried to push myself like the others, but it was much more difficult.". The writing made me quite annoyed at the beginning, but as things started to get better, I felt more relieved and patient.
I have rushed into things impatiently, whether it be a new skill, or building something. Your lesson of patience is very important and I will be sure to apply it to many things in my life. Awesome job!

  2. I really liked how you used figurative language in your piece to over exaggerate how your legs felt. "My legs started to feel like giant weights." I can relate with being impatient especially if things aren't working out for me or going to slow. Your lesson of patience is very important, and I will honestly say everyone alive should have patience because it will help you become successful in life. I can add this to my life by being more patient when things aren't working out for me.

  3. A lesson I learned from this is that sometimes it's better to just be patient even if you're disappointed at first. For example, in the story it says, "Something that I learned is that when you have patience, whatever you are doing can turn around and be an amazing experience." One way I could apply this lesson in my life is to try to have more patience in whatever I'm doing, and to not expect things to work out immediately. For example, sometimes when I first start a drawing sometimes I think it looks terrible but as I keep working on it, it becomes better and better!

  4. I liked how you started your story off with something most people can relate too. It made me want to read more and see what you were talking about. I've never used a wiggle board but I can relate. A lesson I learned is to be patient and to try harder before giving up. A line that supports that is "I wish I had considered having more patience, but I am glad that I was able to have a little of it and have a fun time"

  5. A lesson I learned for reading this was that it's better to keep trying and be patient it what your doing then to stop trying and give up. I liked how you said "I wanted to give up" I can relate to that a lot with learning to ride a bike. It took me many years to learn how to ride one because I kept giving up and then when I was ten I decided to just be patent and keep trying.

  6. One lesson that I can take from this is be grateful for what you get because you can have fun with it." A wiggle board is a smooth plastic board about the size of a skateboard with four wheels, a steering wheel and a place to put our feet. Knowing how to use this board was very interesting"

I really related to the opening line because I sometimes I get frustrated and want to give up too. But this was a good lesson in patience and why it is good to have it.

  8. I like how I can relate to you intro "Sometimes you just want to scream, or just give up on whatever you are doing because you are just so annoyed about something." I also liked how you told the reader how you managed to calm yourself down and showed you can do anything if you just practice.

  9. I can relate to the "sometimes you just want to walk away." and i was surprised that you did not walk like most people would do and kept trying and practicing to get better.

  10. I can relate when I am doing an activity over and over again my hands get tired. They start to hurt and I just want to stop. I take a break o it for like three to five minutes and then get back to it. It made me learn that if you keep going and keep doing what you are doing yyou can make something from boring and tiring to fun and relaxing. I like how you took a moment important to your and really explained and made me feel like I was there.

  11. "It taught me that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet." I understand this quote, because I had to show patience when we adopted a new cat. I learned while waiting for my cat to get used to me that you have to understand that patience will bring good things.

  12. I love how you described each scene perfectly I could imagine it all in my head without even trying. When I started playing hockey didn't really enjoy it at all until I was a goalie I had much more fun like you did focusing on what's important. I learned from this story that if you really want to enjoy something you have too really focus on the main point of it.

  13. I like how you narrate the whole story to make the reader understand what you are feeling,it was super easy imagine because of how much description there was.I think the quote,"It taught me that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet." A lot of people walk away and forget about a task if they don't want to do it or if they don't like it but This taught me it is better not to give up and continue

  14. Good job. Your conclusion is well written. Patience is a virtue. " I know it won't be easy, but the more patience I have the more fun i have" is something we can all relate to. People act in haste and emotion far too often than necessary. Your hook is also well written. Your usage of "I" can be interpreted as readers writing it themselves because it is something we can all relate to. We all get mad, we all get sad, and we all get annoyed. Great writing piece.

  15. The experience is definitely shows patience. Especially because your cousin and your sister were using it the wrong way but having more fun. I can relate because I like to draw and you have to have a lot of patience and spend a lot of time drawing to see improvement. This was a part I really related to, "My hands started to get hot under the sun, and I started to get mad; this ride was useless. I wanted to give up and push the wiggle board like they did, but I knew that was not the right way to use the wiggle board."

  16. I really like how you kept it simple but very detailed at the same time. You also did a really good job on expressing your emotions during the whole thing as well! I like where you said, "It felt like riding a boat on calm waves; it gently gilded across the ground." It really made me know what the experience was like.

  17. Emma. This writing piece is amazing. I love the descriptive writing and language; that really helped get the message across. I think your central idea is patience because of this line, "Sometimes you just want to scream, or just give up on whatever you are doing because you are just so annoyed about something." The lesson I have learned is patience. A way I can apply that to my life is just taking stuff more slowly.

  18. You engaged me by stating things that I can relate to. I can relate to this because I have actually ridden one of those wiggle boards and they are extremely slow and I got very frustrated. ¨ I started to get mad; this ride was useless. I wanted to give up and push the wiggle board like they did, but I knew that was not the right way to use the wiggle board.¨I learned that even if things are slower than you want them to be than just be patient and wait to see the result of being patient. I can apply this to my life because I always want to get things done quicker, but that means it might turn out sloppy or messy so I have to be patient.

  19. Awesome story! I loved the vocabulary you used to describe what you were feeling. Like when you said, "It was one peaceful Sunday, the sun was bright and shining and the breeze was light." I can just envisison that Sunday feeling, and I can see the bright sun, and feel the cool breeze. I can relate to your situation about being frusterated, and impatient. A couple of years ago, my parents decided to buy me a Hoverboard, and just like you, I had a need for speed. However, speed is unaccomplishable when I can't even mantain my balance. My first thought, just like you, was, "I thought it would be exhilarating, but I was sadly incorrect." However, with time and patience, I began to find balance, and get used to the feel of the hoverboard. Now, I look back on that experience as I ride my hoverboard across the house, feeling the breeze across my face. I think the Central Idea here is patience, and I think that you're trying to tell us that You must be patient if you want to accomplish something in life. I thought this when you said, "It taught me that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet." I have applied this lesson to myself many times in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. One time I did this was when I was setting up my Google Home. The Google Home would not connect to WIFI, and I was just about to give up when I told myself to be patient. I was patient, and now we use the Google Home every day, and I just think back to the fact that if I hadn't been patient, our lives would be a lot harder.

  20. I like the intro and I could relate to it. A lesson I learned was to be more patent or I could miss something. I liked the line "I was having fun, and I had less frustration" This I can strongly relate to. With two older siblings I have a short temper.

  21. Nice Story! I love your intro and how you used great descriptive words to describe the setting. "It was one peaceful Sunday, the sun was bright and shining and the breeze was light." I remember those days and loved it when family used to come over and we used to just have a blast! That board you had reminds me of the first time I had learned to ride my bike, it was quite annoying to find the balance but I didn't give up and kept going and managed to accomplish my goal. I think that the lesson in this story is to be patient. In the story you had put, "It taught me that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet." If I had decided to just stop trying to learn how to ride my bike then I wouldn't be riding today, but I decided to be patient and continue trying.

  22. This is a great story Emma! I loved how you wrote your story. It made me feel like I was there, in your head, thinking your thoughts, “...this ride was useless. I wanted to give up and push the wiggle board like they did, but I knew that was not the right way to use the wiggle board.” I have zero patience so it is hard living with two younger siblings. They are always making me go crazy! So learning to have patience would really help me. What a wonderful story!

  23. when you wrote "Something that I learned is that when you have patience, whatever you are doing can turn around and be an amazing experience. That made me think of the time I was never patient rush through everything just to be the first one done but when I start to be patient I started to get stuff done a lot quicker

  24. I liked this story, it taught a valuable lesson about patience. I had one of the wiggle boards when i was little too. I went through the same thing you did, wanting it to go faster, and loosing patience: but the more I practiced it the better I got. You did a good job explaining all your thoughts, "My hands started to get hot under the sun, and I started to get mad; this ride was useless."

  25. I can relate to using patience and then enjoying something. Often when I play chess online I begin to get frustrated and leave the match. But most of the time when I stay I end up having a fun time . The line I can relate the most to is," It taught me that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet."

  26. Being patient can be rewarding sometimes. Playing a game and then like getting a new game to play that's even more fun. Being patient can be rewarding but sometimes it's not. Being patient with a certain game to release like a board game or a new edition of monopoly it's very exciting and very fun. "Patience can be rewarded."

  27. Excellent writing piece Emma! You have made me more interested in your piece. This does relate to me because I use to once been impatient a couple of times. "I know it won’t be easy, but the more patience I have the more fun I will have and the more joy I will get." This relates to me because back when I was a kid I use to hate reading. I never loved reading in my life, but now that I've read more and more articles books I tend to enjoy it. Your writing piece is phenomenal.

  28. I learned to not give up and to keep trying and then we will succeed and then we will get beater at the thing we did not give up on. ¨Sometimes you just want to scream, or just give up on whatever you are doing because you are just so annoyed about something.¨

  29. I can totally relate to this story. there's all lot of times were i just wanna give up but I keep trying. I really liked how descriptive you were in this story it was like I was there with you. I could imagine what was happening really well.

  30. Awesome story Emma! When you said, "I leisurely drove the wiggle board around and sadly maintained the same slow speed." Was a great way to describe your story. It made me feel like i was a part of it. I totally understand how it feels when you try something and you get so frustrated you wanna give up. But now when something like that happens I just try to breathe and let myself know it will be ok! Love the story.

  31. That was an overall great story. One thing that stood out was how you said,"Sometimes you just want to scream, or just give up on whatever you are doing because you are just so annoyed about something." in the introduction. You made me relate to something, and that made me want read on and finish the story. I also love how descriptive you were describing the weather and the whole experience. It engaged us and made us feel like were the ones driving the toy. I also liked the conclusion, when you gave us a life lesson by saying,"It taught that sometimes it is best just to wait and have patience and not to walk away just yet." This is a life lesson that i'm going to want to apply in my life because it is a life lesson that can be used quite often.

  32. one lesson I learned was that patents is key when learning something new."I tried to be patient as I rode the board, but I was getting tired." even though she was getting tired she kept on trying.
