Magic is something that everyone wants. There is only one known way to experience it. Through books.
Fantasy is a genre of fiction that has to do with magic and mythology. It can include almost everything from a sea monster to a world of rainbows and unicorns. There are two subgenres to fantasy: high fantasy and low fantasy.
High fantasy refers to a fantasy that is set in an alternate world. This type of fantasy usually includes magical elements, fantastical creatures, and unusual technology. Low fantasy refers to magical creatures, elements, and other abnormalities that intrude into our regular world. Both are different in their own unique ways, but both of them include magical elements and abnormalities, which is the main characteristic of Fantasy.
A widely known fantasy series is the Harry Potter series. We can tell it is fantasy because it is based on magic and wizardry. The main character, Harry Potter, discovers magic and goes to a school for magic to learn it. This series is in the subgenre of low fantasy. It takes place in London. Though there is a legendary school for magic that humans haven’t heard about, this is still considered low fantasy.
Peter Pan, a popular children's book, is also fantasy. We know this is fantasy because this is a story about a boy who can fly and can never grow up. This series is in the subgenre of high fantasy. Most of the story takes place in a magical world called “Neverland.”
Fantasy is a powerful genre that has magic in its pages. Maybe next time you pick up a book you can feel a bit of magic through it.

In Amys story she talks about fantasy I think the central idea she spoke was that fantasy is interesting and that theres alot more too it she taught me that theres different types of fantasy Low Fantasy and High Fantasy. She also named some examples of Fantasy she named Peter Pan and she said “We know its fantasy because its based on a boy who can fly” She also states Harry Potter she said “We know its Fantasy because its based on magic and wizzardry” I thought the story was interesting and even I learned something from it who wouldve known there was a Low and High Fantasy
ReplyDeleteI love how you chose magic, and how the only way you can really immerse yourself in it is through books. At the end of your second paragraph, you said “There are two subgenres to fantasy: high fantasy and low fantasy”. I had never known this fact, and after reading your Independant piece I understand the genre fantasy better. I like that you gave us two examples, one high fantasy, and one low. I can connect with your piece, because I enjoy reading fantasy and how different it is from reality. Great job Amy!
ReplyDeleteI think the central idea is that fantasy things are never real and some people really want it. I like how you researched the big shows, movies and books. I like the reasons why those shows, movies and books are fantasy. I like how you said in your conclusion “ Fantasy is a powerful genre that has magic in its pages.” How you said that was really engaging because I really wanted to read more after that. Also, your claim had a lot of evidence and was really well written. You have great punctuation and grammar. Overall I think this is a really good piece.
ReplyDeleteI think the central idea is book’s hold magic. I like that you used mature vocabulary like, “ abnormalities”. "Low fantasy’s refers to magical creatures, elements, and other abnormalities that intrude into our regular world.” I also like how you explained what high fantasy and low fantasy is and give examples.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I like how you used figurative language at the end of your piece when you said, “Fantasy is a powerful genre that has magic in its pages.” That made me think of Izzy from Jake and The Neverland Pirates, which is a (Peter Pan-related) kid’s TV show that I watched when I was younger. Izzy sprinkles pixie dust everywhere to make people fly, so I imagine the pages are full of pixie dust, helping people fly into stories.
ReplyDelete“Magic is something that everyone wants. There is only one known way to experience it. Through books.” I think the main idea of this story is imagination. Fantasy is a magical genre and might be read without imagination.Imagination is the key to fantasy. I can apply this to my own life because when I play with my little cousin, it wasn't so fun without imagination. I love how Amy gave us examples of both high fantasies and low fantasies. I love how she uses strong sensory language. For example, she uses the word abnormalities. It really ties the imagination and seriousness together in the piece. ”Fantasy is a powerful genre that has magic in its pages. Maybe next time you pick up a book you can feel a bit of magic through it.” I love this quote because it shows that magic isn’t just in the book, it is everywhere if you have imagination.
