“Do it with passion or not at all.” - Anonymous
If someone told you that
you could never participate in your favorite activities ever again for the rest
of your life, or someone took everything you loved away from you, you would be
devastated, right? I know I would be. It would be like life went from bright
and vivid to dull and muted in a snap. Why? Because they took away everything
you were extremely passionate about. Without passion, the world would turn drab
and dreary for everyone, and no one would care enough to stop it. Passion is
what keeps us alive.
The dictionary definition
of passion is, “a strong or extravagant fondness, enthusiasm, or
desire for anything.” To me, it simply means to care deeply. Passion makes you
want to achieve something, and it’s what makes you care. Passion is the driving
force for anything with cognitive thought.
Passionate people
make a difference. Activists supporting LGBTQ+, ALM, and other causes they
believe in all do it because they are so passionate about it. There are
doctors, nurses, teachers, firefighters, and police officers, all doing their
best because they are passionate about helping people. Celebrities didn’t get
to the top just by sitting on their couch, wishing they could be famous. No,
they went out and made it happen. Black people can be treated like actual human
beings because of passion. Women can be treated as well as men because of
passion. The world is a better place because people were passionate
enough to make it.
One person I think shows
a lot of passion is my amazing Taekwondo instructor, Master Mihee. She shows
passion because she chose this job. She loves Taekwondo and wants us to be the
best we can be. She deals with maddening children who won't listen to
directions and make her want to rip out her hair because she loves Taekwondo.
She co-organizes events, drills us tirelessly, and makes things fun because
she loves Taekwondo. She stayed at the dojang with me until 9:00 PM on multiple
occasions because I had to rush to finish my black belt physical requirements.
She is passionate enough to create and direct performances (we call them demos)
where we break boards and stuff and contact places for us to do them. She cares
about us, and she cares about Taekwondo.
One thing she is
passionate about is how we can do and look our best in demos. For my friend,
TJ, who’s really limber and can jump high, she would tell him to practice his
backflip and experiment with different jumps and flips so he can look amazing
in our demos. For my friend, Mia, she tells her to practice her cartwheels so
she can do an aerial and wow the crowd. For my friend, Nandi, and I, Master
Mihee is very passionate about our kicks, specifically how high they can go.
She stretches us so hard that our legs feel like jello afterwards. But it
helps, and even though my legs are shivering and my muscles are screaming, I
kick the highest I’ve ever kicked after those stretching sessions. She will
continue to make all of us on the demo team feel jello-legged and exhausted
until we are the absolute best ever!
Passion is what makes the
world go round. From activists, to farmers, to the teachers teaching us how to
write essays, all of us are passionate about something. What are you passionate
about?

I think the message is that passion can drive you so that you push harder and you do better in what you're passionate about. Jackie says,” One thing she is passionate about is how we can do and look our best in demos.” Jackie's teacher trains the students very hard because she has a passion for teaching taekwondo. I like how you used words to put a picture into the reader's head, like when you,”She stretches us so hard that our legs feel like jello afterwards.” I like how you used metaphors in your story as well
ReplyDeleteI think the message is about passion, and to have a passion for something. I like a quote from Jackie’s story, and it says, “Passionate people make a difference.” I like this quote because it starts to really get me engaged with Jackie’s short story up ahead and people who are passionate. I like how you had such an engaging voice from the beginning of the story and throughout the paragraphs. It gave Jackie’s story remarkable liveliness and character.
ReplyDeleteI know that the message is about how passionate every successful person is, and how you could use some of this passion for your own use. After I finished reading this, I felt passionate and thought of how useful this could potentially be in everybody's life. You had a great engaging voice that made me see how great passion is, and I love how you described how passionate Master Mihee was and how well the demos go. I've seen one of the demos, and it was awesome! You all must have much passion for what you do.
ReplyDeleteI like how you have so many details you make me feel like your talking to me in real life face to face eye to eye. And yes if someone took everything away from me and all the people i love yes i would be so devastated i don't know what i would do
ReplyDeleteJackie! I loved your Independent Writing Piece on Taekwondo. Your instructor sounds like a very passionate person indeed. Your use of vocabulary and how you presented your piece is in a very persuasive way. I am very passionate about softball the same way you and your instructor are about Taekwondo. The part that just hit me with this good overwhelming feeling was when you said, “ She cares about us, and she cares about Taekwondo.” That shows how much care she loves what she does and how much she loves her students. Amazing Job Jackie!
ReplyDeleteJackies story is about passion and I can connect with this because when I play tennis I feel like ive achieved something because when
ReplyDeleteI play with my dad he used to beat me but now I can beat him easy.I liked how Jackie used Dictonary evidence in her story and then told us her own idea of what it ment; “Passion is what makes the world go round.”

ReplyDeleteYou should be passionate about what you love. Jackie says “She stretches us so hard that our legs feel like jello afterwards.” Even though her legs felt like jello, she still pushed through it because she is so passionate about Taekwondo. I like how she used hyperboles; it really brought the story to life. I also like how Jackie added a question at the end. It really made me think about the things im passionate about. I think the writing piece is about passion and how you should be passionate about the things you love.
I think the message is that you should be passionate. A quote that I liked from Jackie’s story was “Passionate people make a difference. Activists supporting LGBTQ+, ALM, and other causes they believe in all do it because they are so passionate about it.” I like this quote because it gave examples of passionate people, who could be examples in our lives
