There was cardboard, tape, wood dowels, and a hot glue gun. Drawing on the cardboard, cutting shapes, glueing dowels to cardboard, then taping all around it, I made my first cardboard sword.
I’ve made a couple of swords since then, but my favorite is still my first one. The first sword I made was based off of the video game The Legend Of Zelda. In that game there is a sword called the Master Sword. I really love The Legend Of Zelda, and I wanted to make the Master Sword. The sword has taken some battle damages from playing with it. One thing was the handguards; the handguards started to fall of because  they weren't built well. I just ripped them off, replacing them with a different type of handguard. Now the sword is not the Master Sword, so I renamed it the Time Sword.
All the swords I’ve made have names; I wanted them to have names of elemental factors like a video game. I’ve made seven swords/daggers. I’ve named all the swords/daggers so far as The Fire Cleaver, The Water Katana, The Earth Longsword, The Time Sword, The Light Short Sword, The Dark Dagger, and The Poison Knife.
I think I will do things to make these swords look better, and they’re pretty cool ideas. The only thing is I don't know when I should do them. With The Time Sword I want to build it out of wood and paint over it. With the other swords I think I will do the same things. But I think with The Water Sword I’ll make the blade out of something clear. With the Light Sword, something with lights. So many things I can do to make them look fantastic; I just have to think about how to do them.
Building these swords is so amazing.  When I finish I’m always proud of myself. But they don’t always end up like I wanted them to be. It's always a surprise of what they’re going to look like at the end. I think you should try to make cardboard swords too; they’re so cool to have.

  1. You did a good job on explain the sword and why you like the game and what want to do in the future. All the swords I’ve made have names; I wanted them to have names of elemental factors like a video game. Good job Phillip

  2. I liked that you told us how you got the idea to build the swords. I also like how you told us that you built lots of swords, but your favorite one is still the first one you built. Good job Phillip.

  3. You did a great job describing the swords and showing how you do it and what they usually turn out like. I liked at the beginning where you listed the materials needed “cardboard, tape, wooden dowels, and a hot glue game gun.” Good job Phillip.

  4. I really like the opening where you tell us all the parts you used to make a sword. I think we can all learn something from how hard you worked to make these swords. In the text you said:"Building these swords is so amazing. When I finish I’m always proud of myself." It just shows how awesome hard work is and how in the end we feel so great!

  6. "I just ripped them off, replacing them with a different type of handguard." This piece was great and very informative. This quote shows me that even if you struggle at first everything will be fine in the end.

  7. The message I can infer form your piece is to do what you love it it makes you happy, I apply that top my own live because I really enjoy drawing but I don't do it enough, and now I probaly will. The quote I like is "So many things I can do to make them look fantastic" I liked this because it shows how you are willing to do so many things to improve you awesome swords.

  8. I liked how you expressed how you felt after you made the swords because it showed how you put intricacy in to the process of making them. "But I think with The Water Sword I’ll make the blade out of something clear". I like how you are going to use different materials for some blades. For the water sword, I would recommend using acrylic for the blade because it is not as dangerous as glass and it is more rigid than most plastics.

  9. I learned that everything might not go your way but you may like it different. I can use this in my life if I do something new and it doesn't come out like the instructions I can see if I liked what I did. A quote that shows the theme is "the handguards started to fall off because they weren't built well." I liked the way it was written because I like videogames and you like building swords inside of videogames.

  10. What I inferred from this is that you enjoy what your passion is. I can apply this to my life that you might not get the result you wanted but you will still enjoy it.

I liked this because you had fun making the sword and you were proud of yourself even though it didn't come out to be what you wanted it to be.

  11. I loved your story Phillip, its unique is the way were you used a video game item and made it in real life. I love this part especially "I’ve made a couple of swords since then, but my favorite is still my first one." This reminds of the time I made my first origami ball, and I made a couple after that but my favorite is still the original. Good job Phillip

  12. Phillip this was really good and I like how you tell us about your experience making swords. One quote I really liked was "There was cardboard, tape, wood dowels, and a hot glue gun. Drawing on the cardboard, cutting shapes, gluing dowels to cardboard, then taping all around it, I made my first cardboard sword." This first paragraph helps build the story and makes me understand what it was like to build a sword. Great job Phillip.

  13. The message from this piece that I inferred is to try new things. I liked when you said, ¨Building these swords is so amazing. When I finish I’m always proud of myself.¨ Because it made me think that I could try something new, and I could like it just as much as you like making swords. I can apply this to my life because I like to make things as well, but I have never tried to make swords. Great job phillip!
