Playstation Plus: Scam?

By: Brady F.

Have you ever bought a bag of chips and realized that you are paying for half a bag of air? Or what about when you buy candy and the box is only half full? That's what Playstation Plus feels like; you only get half of the amount of what you pay for.  Playstation Plus is too much money and an overall scam. Playstation Plus is just another one of Sony’s attempts to milk every last dollar out of our bank accounts.

Sony created Playstation Plus because they know users will pay, because  who doesn't love playing online games with friends or family?  Playstation Plus isn't required to play all games, just the online ones. However, with the market receiving more and more games, it feels like a requirement. In 2016, 73% of people played offline, but now 1.2  billion people play online. Online games are the main way people play now. With games like Battle Royales (where it is a free for all where the last person standing wins) only having online play, everyone wants to play online. Solo playing is a thing of the past. In today's day and age. You will very rarely see games that have offline features. But most of the time you need to have Playstation Plus to access games even if the game has offline and online play.

What is Playstation Plus?  Author Chris Hoffman says, “Playstation Plus is required to play multiplayer games online.” It also allows you to  get free games and upload to the cloud (with a catch). Playstation Plus varies in price; you can pay 10.99 for one month, 24.99 for three months, and 59.99 for a year. It's super pricey, and not all users have the money to get the “benefits” that you get from the scam that is Playstation Plus.

Sony scares their users with the Playstation Plus service. One of the reasons is that you can’t play online if you are not a Playstation Plus member. And that is scary to most users, buying an online game to play with your friends and then realizing that you have to pay even more money to get the full benefits of the game.

With Playstation Plus you get free games, and that sounds like a deal to most users, but there is a huge catch. The catch is if you lose Playstation Plus you no longer have access to the game. With Playstation Plus you get the ability to access and upload your game data to the cloud. But once you lose Playstation Plus you lose all of that data until you renew your subscription; that can put a huge step on someone's gaming experience if your save files are locked. Another thing is that you lose access to all online games even if they have an offline experience like a campaign.

Overall Playstation Plus is a huge cash grabbing scam. Hide your wallets and hide your valuables because there is a storm coming that is Sony’s cash grabbing Playstation monopoly.

  1. The authors opinion on the issue is that play station plus is a scam. I do agree with the author because when you buy a console your spending hundred of dollars, then when you buy a video game that is an additional cost of 60 dollars. Then if you want to play online you have to buy another service.

  2. hey brady its Thomas. I don't agree with this because $60 for a year is a great price I can make 8x that in 6 months ps4 is not a scam you get free stuff like 1m dollars on gta or free skins in fortnite call of duty ect... and its not all online games that you need ps plus for like fortnight or rouge company or minecraft ect... I think this is a over exaggerated passage and needs tobe fixed not all of this is true. You get free game every month to. game that cost $60 like nba 21 or tomb raider. you did do a good job on this but it could use some more fixs. and xbox has the same thingbut it cos more so i would probly complain about that more. good job on the passeg.

  5. I agree with this passage because I used to play on x-box and they made you get a x-box live account if you wanted to play with your friends. I thought that was boul so I sold my x-box and got a switch, for switch games you don't have to pay to play with your friends but you do have to buy the game you wanna play. Overall good story!!

  6. I fully agree with your stance. I don't own a playstation, but I'll compare to nintendo online. It seems very scummy that companies require you to buy their exclusive "membership" or "Deluxe package" when it's just what you had before with slightly more. Also, withholding save files is mega scummy; imagine you have practically beaten a game, just for your Playstation Plus to expire. S-tier scummy business practices.

  7. The author's opinion is that Playstation plus is a scam. "Sony scares their users with the Playstation Plus service." I agree with this because i owned a Ps4 and I bought a 60$ game for it. I could not even play online because I did not have Ps plus. It scared me. Overall great job Brady

  8. I agree with your statement, users shouldn't have to pay hundreds of dollars on the Playstation itself just to find out you have to pay even more money to play with friend. Sixty bucks isn't a lot but for a teenager it is. For someone who doesn't have a job for different reasons or their parents wont pay for it because they don't want you on games, that can lower your chances of playing with friends.

  9. The authors opinion is that playstation plus is a scam. I agree because first you have to spend money to get full benefits. And you have to have playstation plus even if it has on and offline play. You're spending more money to get all benefits after you paid a lot of money.

  10. I agree that it is a scam. All games should be free once you buy the console. The price of the console should cover all of the games. I agree that Playstation Plus feels like; you only get half of the amount of what you pay for. Playstation Plus is too much money and an overall scam.

  11. In the writing piece you say that the Playstation is a huge scam. I agree with you, the playstation is very expensive and sometimes hard to come by. People will spend a lot of time and money for something that may come in bad quality or even having to buy a new one if it breaks. Not to mention you will have to buy more games once you buy the playstation itself. I like how you compared a bag of chips to the playstation because you don't get what you pay for. I almost think of a playstation as a firestick because you can buy the T.V and remote but you still have to pay money for the apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus and more. I also think that it is a huge scam and is not worth peoples money.

  12. I agree with you that this is a scam. I think that I would just like everything separate, because sometimes it might put money on your account while getting the games.
