My heart is racing,
legs are aching.
and my hands are shaking.
I look to the wood,
and I hope that I can.
Words spin around my head,
but disappear quickly.
As if every breath I take
is carrying them away.
I spin towards the board.
thud
I hit the wood,
as hard as I can.
But I know something isn’t right.
I stare off ahead,
towards the crowd,
and their faces are blank,
as they look back at me.
And now I want to stop.
But how can I?
I know I need to try.
Something is telling me
to put all that fear aside.
The board stares at me,
mocks me.
But I see the weakness,
that’s inside of it,
and feel the power,
surging inside me.
Bam
I turn to the audience and bow,
then receive my black belt
as I look towards the crowd.
The weight lifts off my shoulders,
as I watch the audience applaud,
and I think
I did it,
I finally did it.

Dilni, this piece used great imagery; it made me feel as if I was there with you. You described confidence very well in the line, "and feel the power/surging inside me."
ReplyDeleteDilni, this was a very powerful piece. You described your experience perfectly and really painted a picture for me. I really like the metaphor , "The weight lifts off my shoulders/as I watch the audience applaud/and I think/I did it/I finally did it." I liked this quote , because it really showed me your relief when you accomplished breaking the board and your hard work had payed off. This made me come to the conclusion that the message was determination.
ReplyDeleteDilni, I really like this poem. You clearly show us the topic and put us right there with you. I love the quote, " I know I need to try/Something is telling me to put all that fear aside." It gives the central idea of perseverance. That central idea gives a message to never give up even if you have fear and are scared. Also, to never stop trying.
ReplyDeleteThis is such an amazing piece. The poetic device that you used that made me enjoy it so much was your use of imagery. The line "My heart is racing, legs are aching, and my hands are shaking." This line also set the mood of pressure and anxiousness which made me more interested to keep reading.
