In a Split Second

Warm ruby blood
Trickled down my face
My body lay numb
My heart stayed pounding

Tire marks streaked the road
Glass covered the ground
She lay feet away from me
Like a
Stone
Cold
Lifeless
Statue
We didn’t know what was coming
Partying with no end
Music blaring
Like a siren

But now here we were
Two young best friends
Two young roommates
Two young sisters

The car swerved
Then all was black
Like a fragile piece of glass
Our lives shattered

In a moment
In a heartbeat
In a split second

  1. I love the use of the metaphors in the lines, "she lay feet away from me like stone cold lifeless statue." and, "music blaring like a siren." and, "like a fragile piece of glass/our lives shattered."

  3. The line, "Warm ruby blood. Trickeled down my face" shows imagery. I can really imagine that. Safety, These friends were doing illegal things and it caused damage to both of the girls. The structure does effect is because in the line "like a Stone Cold Lifeless Statue." Its all split up into its own line and it really demonstraits the meaning of the poem. It shows what the girl saw.

  4. The line,"Warm ruby blood/Trickled down my face/My body lay numb/My heart stayed pounding." to me shows imagray, because I can see them crashing, and I can see the girl with blood dripping down her face in the middle of the street."The car swerved/Then all was black/Like a fragile piece of glass/Our lives shattered." this shows that it caused damage to their life and it was a hard situation to deal with. I believe this really showed the meaning of the story.

  5. The message that this poem is trying to tell us is that unexpected things can happen. "The car swerved Then all was black Like a fragile piece of glass/Our lives shattered In a moment In a heartbeat In a split second." These two stances in the end of the poem helped me realize the message that anything can happen.
