S p l i s h,
S p l a s h,
That’s how the ocean used to go.
But, sadly,
Now the ocean is drowning,
In garbage
That we put there.
But we don’t care!
We should care!
The ocean,
Day by day,
Is waiting to drown in its own home.

We should care that the fish population is decreasing,
We should care that the bird population is decreasing,
But instead, we only care about ourselves!
The ocean is like a flower,
It needs to be taken care of in order to survive.
So why don't we take care of it?
We can fix our mistakes,
We can change the ocean, the beaches, the air
We should change!

One day the world might depend on us changing,
So why not start now!
And make the ocean thrive with fish,
Make the air flourish with birds and,
Make the world prosper with life,
S p l i s h,
S p l a s h,

That’s how the ocean will go again,
Someday,
If only we tried.

  1. Hannah, this piece was inspiring! Your point absolutely came across clearly, and the piece itself was very well written! "We should care that the fish population is decreasing..." helped to get the message of caring for the planet and taking responsibility for your actions across your piece, which did a fantastic job of supporting your central idea of consideration. Great job!

  2. You're piece was fantastic! You used so many poetic devices that helped me identify the mood. In line "Splish, splash, that's how the ocean used to go. But, sadly, now the ocean is drowning," you used onomatopoeia, which opened your poem up nicely.

  3. I love the onomatopeia you used, "S p l i s h,
    S p l a s h," It really developed on how I thought about this story.

  4. Hannah, I really enjoyed your poem and it had a very clear message. The line that I enjoyed the most that helped me form a mood was,"S p l i s h,
    S p l a s h,
That’s how the ocean used to go." This line helped me establish a mood because I thought it was very descriptive and it really set the mood and made me feel sad which set a great mood for a really good poem.
