They drive 100, 200,
500, 1,000
Miles
To get to the gem of
the summer time
Finally they reach the
sand and the fresh salty breeze
The turquoise water
filled with all different kinds of life
Some we know of and
some we don’t
They soak it up, all
of it
Into their striped
blue and white bathing suits and into their minds
They savor
They run the streets
In search of the thing
that hurts their
Teeth
One dressed in white,
One in red
One with a ring around
her head
One with great big
horns pointing to the sky
By now the top of
their sun kissed skin has been replaced
By the bright orange
pumpkins’ sitting on almost every front porch
Looking to each other
They smile and
They savor
The car is creeping
right down the street
The people inside
admiring the
Brilliant bright
lights
Outside the white car
Is an equally white
landscape
With heavy flicks of
white falling down all around them
The windows of all the
homes they pass
Are filled with all
different sizes of gracious, green pines
Filled top to bottom with
colors of the seasons
It’s below freezing
outside the white car but
Inside they have hot
cocoa,
Topped with tiny bright white marshmallows to
keep them warm and
They savor
The green leaves grow
out of the ground
Followed by the
wrapped up leaves
Still trying to
contain the last warmth they need
The sun pops and so do
the brilliant bright tulips
Smell of spring fills
the air
The living, luscious
leaves on the trees fill the forests
They look around at
all the growth
Going on around them
and
They Savor
-Ellen Billington
I think what the poem is trying to tell me is to enjoy all the things in life. Take a moment to appreciate the nature and the scenery. A line from the poem that supports my message is "The sun pops and so do the brilliant bright tulips" and the word in the poem "savor" telling me to savor the moment.
ReplyDeleteIn this poem you really express a strong message. I think that is don't look at the bad in live and think about what you can savor in the time now. At the end of each paragraph you said "they savor" So that really express what I think. you really express a lot of strong opinions.
ReplyDeleteTo me your message is happiness because what you are talking about like you wrote "To get to the gem of the summer time." When I think of summer I think that it's not stressful it is more happy and that is what your poem shows me.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good poem! I think that the message of this poem is to accept the things that change in life because everything isn't always going to be the same as it always has. I think this because every stanza is explain what it's like during a different time of year and then at the end of it it says to savor all of the moments because they are all good in their own kind of way.
