Have you ever done something without really thinking? Most people have. It is pretty important to be cautious wherever you go and be aware of what is around you. Like how you shouldn’t cross the road without looking. Or maybe fall down the stairs somehow. Nonetheless, it is still important to be cautious.

It was summer, and I was on vacation with my family. It was quite a pleasant summer afternoon. It was as peaceful as an open field. A peculiar amount of seagulls were being annoying outside, so I was quite exasperated; I was going to go to the beach with my family in a couple of minutes, so I had to go get my beach stuff that I needed. Once I got everything I needed I waited for the rest of my family to get ready. They were taking a tedious amount of time. It prolonged going to the beach by like an hour, so I sat in a chair almost sleeping. The chair creaked. It felt like years had gone by once they were almost done. After they were all decisively situated we could walk to the beach. It really wasn’t too far. I went outside but almost tripped on something. The rock made a thump on the ground because it was decently sized. Luckily I didn’t trip, so I just treaded on over with my family to the beach. It was a radiant day, so I brought sunglasses.

I had gotten to the beach, so while my parents went to find a good spot I went to the ocean to test out the water. The sun shone on the water, making it like a luminous mirror; the crusty sand was bizzare to walk over. I had stepped into the shallow waters. It was frigid, but I knew that I’d probably get used to it. I went to where my parents set up our stuff to take my sandals off. The second I stepped on the sand I immediately hopped back onto the towel like a rabbit. The sand was scorching hot. I felt like I had just stepped onto a pool of lava or something. The sand sizzled as I went back onto it. My parents told me to be cautious in the water, but I really wasn’t paying that much attention to them.

I stepped into the water meticulously so as not to step on anything like I usually do, and I noticed that there were numerous sorts of rocks in the water. I saw some jagged looking rocks but decided to ignore them. I went farther into the water. The splashing of the waves was quite soothing. I went splishing and splashing around a bit. The water suddenly felt like I was in an iceberg, but I kept going anyway, my legs quivering as I went deeper. I swam around a bit more, but the waves were like a lion, so I backed out of the water a couple steps. My arms trembled because of how cold it was. I felt like my foot was slightly pricked, but I didn’t notice because the water was sort of stinging. I felt as though I was being stung by an electric eel. After a couple of minutes, I got used to the water at last, but I got out of the water to dry off and do stuff in the sand like digging and burying things. The instant I stepped out of the water I realized that there was some bizarre red sand; it seemed to be as red as a crab. I thought it was aberrant, so I investigated a bit further.

I tentatively looked at my foot and realized it was bleeding. I was consternated for a second. I panicked, so I went to my parents. They were panicking like monkeys, so they put a bandage on it. It was perfectly fine, but we decided to go back to the place we were staying at the time. We continued the rest of our vacation ordinarily after that.

It is important to be aware of what’s around you. You don’t just want to fall down the stairs because you weren’t aware or get hit by a car by not looking before you cross the road because you weren’t meticulous enough. My experience wasn’t all that bad, but it is still important to be cautious. In all there are benefits in paying attention to your surroundings, like not getting injured as often or helping someone not get injured, so being aware and being even slightly cautious of your surroundings is always a good idea.

  1. I learned this lesson the hard way. I was playing lacrosse trying to score, but I was looking at my lacrosse stick and not looking up, as soon as I looked up I got absolutely flattened by a kid. That's when I learned “to be cautious.”

  2. The idea that you should always be cautious really stood out to me. He explained it really well when he said: “I saw some jagged looking rocks but decided to ignore them” after this, his foot bled. It showed that you should always be cautious unless you want to get hurt.

  3. David M. I like all your mature vocabulary. Like when you said, “I was quite exasperated; It prolonged going to the beach.” Also when you said, “It was a radiant day.” Being cautious is a good lesson, and it really showed when you said, “In all there are benefits in paying attention to your surroundings." That shows the benefits to being cautious.
